August Property Tax Reminder

Third Quarter 2005 Property Taxes are due now. Because of circumstances surrounding the adoption of the State budget, mailing the tax bills has been delayed. The delay may cause the interest-free grace period to be extended beyond August 10th. Information about an extension of the interest-free grace period will be included in the Tax Collector's phone greeting, at 973-543-7152. ext. 17, and will be posted on Mendham Borough's website: mendhamnj.org.

MENDHAM WILL SOON BE 100 YEARS OLD HELP Us CELEBRATE

In 2006 Mendham Borough will be celebrating its 100"' Birthday. As part of the celebration, the 100"' Anniversary Book Committee is publishing a Centennial "coffee table" book about the historv. architecture, activities and citizens of Mendham. The Committee would like your help in compiling information.

The book will reflect upon the evolution, culture, and citizens of our town before and after our incorporation in 1906. Anyone with pictures, history, or stories of interest is invited to contribute. Labor Day Carnival

The Pastime Club will again sponsor the Labor Day Carnival at Mendham Borough Field. This year, 2005, is the 62nd consecutive year for this special community-based event. We invite you and your family and friends to come and join us for an exciting experience. There will be rides, games, food. and. most of all. fun for everyone. The Carnival schedule is:
Friday. September 2nd , 6:00-10:30PM
Saturday September 3rd 6:00-10:30PM
Sunday, September 4th 6:00-10:30PM
Monday, September 5th 1 1 :OOAM-10:30PM

Highlights of the Carnival will include:
PASTIME CLUB 50/50 - drawing will be held at 9:15PM on Monday, September 5. The cash prize for this event has steadily grown over the years. Organizers have been working hard to make this year a smashing success and hope to beat last year's prize of $26,000. Tickets for the 50/50 are $5 each and will be available at the carnival and from Club members, who will be in front of Kings on weekends during August. Tickets are also available in advance at several local merchants- look for the Labor Day Carnival poster in their window.
FIREWORKS DISPLAY - immediately following the 50/50, at 9:30. The Pastime Club's motto is "Progress in Sports." The funds raised by this annual event benefit multiple youth athletic programs in the Mendhams and Chesters. Through your generosity the club's efforts in the community benefit approximately 3,000 boys and girls every year.

Timing Limits set for Home Construction

With the warmer weather arriving, so has the construction season. Residents are reminded that the Borough limits when contractors can perform work at your home. This includes all new construction, as well as renovations. Section 147-9 of the Borough code reads:

B. Hours of construction activities. No construction activities shall take place at any time other than the following:
(1) On weekdays (Monday through Saturday! between the hours of 7:OOAM and 6:OOPM.
(2) Sundays and Holidays. No construction activities shall be permitted on Sundays or on New Year's Day. Memorial Day. Independence Day. Labor Day. Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
(3) Exceptions. construction activities by a property owner on his own property, provided that such construction activity is not carried on for profit or livelihood and is not performed by a paid contractor, may be carried on any day between the hours of 7:OOAM and 9:OOPM.

The code also makes exceptions for certain emergency situations. This section of the code is enforced by the Borough's Police Department, 973-543-2527. and Construction Code Department 973-543-7152. ext. 18.


Used Clothing Donations Support Mt.View 8th Graders

Donations of used-but-wearable clothing, shoes, accessories, and stuffed animals, will be accepted at the Mt. View School. 100 Dean Road. September 1 9'!'-October 1 M. Drop off bags of clothes during school hours on weekdays, and from 9:OOAM-2:OOPM on Saturday, during the annual 8th Grade Fair. To make arrangements for a special drop-off phone Kaki Pierson Halse. at 973-543-2781.

The students will earn 10C for every pound of clothing collected, and will ship the items to underdeveloped countries, through the American Used Clothing Corporation. This year's 8th Grade Fair will be held on October 1st. The theme is "Jammin' with the class of '06." so bring your dancing shoes and the whole family! You'll find plenty of games, prizes, raffles, auction items, local vendors, food, music and more. The 8"' grade students have organized the clothing drive and Fair to benefit their class trip, to Washington.


10K Run Helps Local Projects

The 4th annual Mendham 1 OK Run for Patriots begins at 11:30AM, on Sunday. October 2nd at the Brookside Community Club (BCC). All proceeds will benefit the Library of the Mendhams and the Historic Ralston Cider Mill.

Runners of all levels and ages are invited to participate. After check-in at the BCC, participants will be bused to the official race start, near the Ralston Fire House on Rt. 24. The off-road trail race follows sections of Patriot's Path in Mendham, ending back in Brookside. A one-mile Family Fun Run will be held after the race. The Mendham run for Patriots was conceived by Mendham resident Mark Ford to raise money for community groups, and is supported by local sponsors including Kings. Nabisco, The Mendham Bakery. Mariques, Jersey Boy Bagels of Morristown, The Colonial Pantry. American Home Products, Culligan Water, and Shamrock Lacrosse. Volunteers include students from the Mendham High School athletic program, local fire departments, and the Board of Ed. Transportation Services.


Senior Citizens Club Trips

Cost is $23/members or non-members (the casino gives each person a bonus package). Last day for sign-up and payment in full is Sept 5th. The bus will leave from the parking lot behind the King's Market/Chinese Restaurant, at 9:OOAM.
